Configure Google Analytics – WordPress

1. Create or Set up the account and property for the client

If the client already has a Google Analytics account:

Contact the Account Manager so he or she can request that the client adds Metrics@onelivemedia.com to the account with ALL permissions. Here are directions for client to add Metrics@onelivemedia.com to the account:
  1. Log into Google Analytics Account.
  2. Click Admin tab at the top.
  3. Under Account (the first column) click User Management.
  4. In the Add Permissions text box use metrics@onelivemedia.com.
  5. From the drop down menu check Manage Users, Edit, Collaborate and Read & Analyze (select every option).
  6. Check the box to Notify this user by email.
  7. Click Add.
Once we are added to the client's Google Analytics account:
  1. Log into Google Analytics with metrics@onelivemedia.com. If you need the login credentials see Bret or Pam.
  2. Click the Admin tab.
  3. In the Account column, select the client's account from the drop down menu.
  4. In the property menu select Create New Property at the bottom of the drop down.
  5. Choose the Website button at the top of the page.
  6. Name the property with the client's name and the type of store. For example, Beyonce US Store.
  7. In the Website URL text box choose the drop down for https and enter the domain URL with no trailing slash. Example: Use store.website.com not store.website.com/
  8. Select the appropriate industry category from the drop down.
  9. Under Reporting Time Zone choose Central time zone.
  10. Click Get Tracking ID.

If the client does not have a Google Analytics account:

*Please note that these steps depend upon the type of client you are adding. Direct Clients:
  1. Log into Google Analytics with metrics@onelivemedia.com. If you need the login credentials see Bret or Pam.
  2. Click the Admin tab.
  3. In the Account column, select Create new account from the drop down menu.
  4. Choose Website button at the top of the page.
  5. Name the account with the client's company name.
  6. Under the section titled Setting up your property, use a website name that describes what this site is. For example, "Jeff Gordon Fan Club" or "Jeff Gordon Merch Store."
  7. In the Website URL text box choose the drop down https and enter the domain URL with no trailing slash. Example: Use store.website.com not store.website.com/
  8. Select the appropriate industry category from the drop down.
  9. Under Reporting Time Zone choose Central time zone.
  10. Under Data Sharing Settings choose Technical support and Account Specialists.
  11. Click Get Tracking ID.
Merch Stores (Global, Bandmerch, Sandbag, Universal or Sony):
  1. Log into Google Analytics with metrics@onelivemedia.com. If you need the login credentials see Bret or Pam.
  2. Click the Admin tab.
  3. In the Account column, select the proper merchant from the drop down menu (Global, Bandmerch, Sandbag, Universal or Sony.) Please note they are broken up alphabetically and add the client to the proper merchant name and section.
  4. In the property menu select Create New Property at the bottom of the drop down.
  5. Choose the Website button at the top of the page.
  6. Name the property with the client's name and the type of store. For example, Beyonce US Store.
  7. In the Website URL text box choose the drop down for https and enter the domain URL with no trailing slash. Example: Use store.website.com not store.website.com/
  8. Select the appropriate industry category from the drop down.
  9. Under Reporting Time Zone choose Central time zone.
  10. Click Get Tracking ID.

2. Add Google Analytics Tracking Code to Store

 
  1. Log into the site's Wordpress backend
  2. Click Plugins in the left side menu
  3. Find Google Analytics by Yoast and click Settings. If this plugin has not been installed, task the developer to install it and return to this process once it is in place.
  4. Under Google Profile click Authenticate with your Google Account.
  5. Choose the metrics@onelivemedia.com account
  6. Copy the code that comes up
  7. Click over to Wordpress and paste the code in the text box
  8. Click Save authentication code
  9. In the drop down menu for Analytics Profile, choose the profile of this store or site.
  10. Where it says ignore users, remove the default "administrator" and "editor" options.
  11. Click Save Changes

3. Enable eCommerce in Google Analytics

  1. Log into Google Analytics with Metrics@onelivemedia.com
  2. Click the admin tab
  3. Under Accounts, choose the client you are setting up
  4. Under Property, Choose the store that we are launching
  5. Under View, click eCommerce settings
  6. Turn all eCommerce settings to ON and click Save.

4. Exclude One Live Media's IP Address from the Analytics View

  1. Log into Google Analytics with Metrics@onelivemedia.com
  2. Click on the Admin Tab
  3. Under Accounts click on the drop down menu and choose the client you are working on.
  4. Click on All Filters
  5. Click on + New Filter
  6. In the Filter Name text box, type One Live IP
  7. Click Filter Type Predefined
  8. Click Select Filter Type and click exclude
  9. Click select source or destination and choose traffic from the IP addresses
  10. Click choose expression and select that are equal to
  11. Paste the IP address 216.201.167.234 into the text box
  12. Select all of the available views under Apply Filter to Views, and click on Add
  13. Click Save to save this filter.

5. Set Up Referral Exclusions

  1. Log into Google Analytics with metrics@onelivemedia.com
  2. Click on the Admin tab
  3. Under accounts click on the drop down menu and select the client you are working on
  4. Under Properties click on the drop down menu and select the first property. You will repeat this same process for every property in the client's account.
  5. Under properties click on tracking info
  6.  Click on referral exclusion list
  7. Click + Add Referral Exclusion
  8. In the Domain text box type myshopify.com and click create.
  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 to also add the domains paypal.com, checkout.shopify.com, my.livechat.inc.com and the URL of this client's shopify store (e.g. bassnectar.myshopify.com).

6. Set Up Goals in Analytics

Non BandMerch Clients:
  1. Log into Google Analytics with metrics@onelivemedia.com
  2. Click on the Admin tab
  3. Under accounts click on the drop down menu and select the client you are working on
  4. Under Properties click on the drop down menu and select the store property.
  5. Under view click on Goals
  6.  Click on +New Goal
  7. Type  Place An Order in the text box for the goal name
  8. Select Destination for the Type.
  9. Click Next Step
  10. Under Destination choose Equals to from the drop down menu
  11. In the Destination text box enter the last part of the thank you page for this site's purchases. (e.g. /thank_you)
  12. Leave the Value and Funnel options off
  13. Click Create Goal
BandMerch Clients: BandMerch has made special requests to see goal funnels, so please do the following.
  1. Open a new browser tab
  2. Paste this shared analytics goal into the tab: https://www.google.com/analytics/web/template?uid=0Phph_6kQ0uKqjrEJAjyRA
  3. Select the correct client view from the drop down menu
  4. Choose Create New Goal
  5. Keep it at the default of First Available ID
  6. Click Create
  7. When it brings you to that view's Goal page, click to Save the goal.

7. Enable Demographics Reporting

  1. Log into Google Analytics with metrics@onelivemedia.com
  2. Click on the Account and Property that you are working with.
  3. Click on the Reporting tab
  4. In the left side menu, click Audiences
  5. Click Demographics
  6. Click Overview
  7. Click Enable Demographic Reporting (If it is already enabled, this will not appear and you may skip this step.)

8. Set up Alerts to be sent if site traffic has no hits

  1. Log into Google Analytics with metrics@onelivemedia.com
  2. Click on the Account and Property that you are working with
  3. Click on the view that you are working with
  4. Under view click Custom Alerts
  5. Click + New Alert
  6. In the Alert Name text box type "No Hits"
  7. In the apply to: Drop Down menu select the view you are working on.
  8. In the Period drop down menu select day
  9. Check the box to send e-mail alerts
  10. In the Also Include: Drop down menu select pamela.bensin@onelivemedia.com and bret.williams@onelivemedia.com
  11. In the This Applies To field select All Traffic
  12. In the Alert Me When field choose Sessions
  13. In the Condition field choose is less than
  14. In the Value Text box type "1"
  15. Click Save Alert.
