Configure Shipping

The shipping rates will be configured based on the information submitted by the customer. Some customers may elect to use flat-rate shipping rates and real-time configurations will not need to be set.

Adding Shipping Address

Before you can activate carrier rates, you have to add a Shipping Address, the address from which packages will be sent.

Note: If the merchant is shipping from multiple locations, additional integration or apps are required. Please consult with the Project Manager if multiple shipping locations is required.

  1. Go to Settings > Shipping.
  2. If you see the message "You current have not set up a shipping address." at the top of the page, click Add one now.
  3. Update the address information. Use the customer information submitted in the New Site Information form.
  4. Click Update shipping address.

Note: If the client will be shipping from multiple warehouses or origination points, this will require additional configurations or apps. Please consult with the Project Manager to determine the best course of action.

Configure Real-time Shipping Methods

Real-time shipping rates are created by queries to the major shipping partners for rates. These rates are published rates and are not to be confused with negotiated rates as provided by carriers for their customers.

Activate Rates

Note: Due to security issues, this configuration can only be handled by authorized personnel. Consult the project manager for more information. The various rates will be configured based on the account information provided by the vendor or our shipping management team.

Configure Shipping Table Rates (Shopify v1)

Creating Shipping Table Rates is not difficult in Shopify, but it can be tedious. Shipping rates are set by target country/region and by combined weight of items or the total price of products in the shopping cart.

Before beginning, you need to figure out into what regions the client is willing to ship (see New Site Information data in the project files).

  1. Go to Settings > Shipping.
  2. Click Add a country.
  3. Select the desired country.
  4. Select any additional choices based on the country chosen (some countries require selections for additional taxes).
  5. Click Add country.

Note: Only select countries into which the client wishes to ship. If the client wants, you can add "Rest of the World" and not assign any shipping rates. This will show all countries to shoppers, but give them a message that shipping is not available for countries other than any for which rates have been assigned.

To begin adding Shipping rates:

  1. Click Add a shipping rate next to the desired Country.
  2. Shipping Name Enter a name for the rate as it should appear to consumers.
  3. Criteria Select the appropriate criteria.
  4. Weight Range/Price Range Enter the appropriate values.
Note: Price range is determined by entering each level of price and above. If you want rates different at $0 - 10, $10 - 25 and $25 and above, you would set rates for $0, $10 and $25. Weight based rates work on a range of weights. Weight ranges should be provided at the 0.1 level. For weight ranges where rates are charged differently for shopping carts weight 0 - 10 pounds, 10 - 25 pounds and 25 - 1,000 pounds, then you would enter 0-10, 10.1-25 and 25.1-1000 as the weight ranges. Note that 0-10 and 11-25 would mean that carts weighing 10.5 would not have an applied weight.
  1. Shipping Price Enter the shipping charge.
  2. De-select any Region within the country for which you do not want the rate to apply.
  3. Adjust Rate Enter any rate adjustment from the above entered Shipping Price that apply to a specific Region.
  4. Click Add shipping rate.

You will need to repeat this process for any subsequent ranges and rates. See Shipping for more information.

Newer stores created in Shopify allow you to create shipping zones. Follow these steps for entering table rates.
    1. Go to Settings > Shipping.
    2. Click Edit zone for Domestic (United States).
    3. Click (62 of 62 states).
    4. Remove the areas that will not have Domestic rates, i.e. Alaska, Hawaii, Guam.
    5. Click Save.
    6. Click Add shipping rate.
    7. Choose the appropriate shipping criteria (Free shipping, Based on order price, Based on order weight, or Real-time rate estimates).
    8. Enter the Shipping service name.
    9. Enter the Minimum weight and Maximum weight and Shipping cost.
    10. Click Save.

You will need to repeat this process for any subsequent ranges and rates.

    2. Click Add shipping zone.
    3. Enter United States in the Add countries field.

    5. Enter Domestic Plus in the Zone name field.
    6. Click Save.

    Configure Free Shipping Methods

To provide Free Shipping, you will need to create shipping rates — as described above — and enter "0.00" as the shipping rate for whatever criteria you choose.

    Configure Fulfillment Email

Shopify allows emails of orders to be sent to whomever is doing the fulfillment so they are notified that an order has been placed.

First, you need to find out to whom fulfillment orders should be sent. For the time being, use the project manager's email address.

    1. Go to Settings > Shipping in the store backend.
    2. Find the last box at the bottom of the screen containing Services: Order fulfillment by e-mail.
    3. Click Activate.
    4. Name In-house
    5. Email [Project Manager's email address].
    6. Click Save.
