Add Initial Content

Once the design scheme is in place, we need to create the default non-product content for the site, as any e-commerce store contains more than just products and checkout.

Add Default Pages & Content

Every site needs to have certain mandatory content. For each of the following pages, create a page in Shopify:
  1. Go to Online Store > Pages in the Shopify backend.
  2. Click Add a page.
  3. Enter the information for the page as indicated for each page described on this page.
  4. Click Save page.

Create each of the following pages, using the information shown.

About Us

  • Title About Us
  • Content Copy and paste the following placeholder text. If the client already has a website with an About Us page, copy and paste the content from the current site, removing any styling information.
Authoritatively restore quality imperatives before out-of-the-box users. Appropriately integrate one-to-one web-readiness via process-centric core competencies. Credibly generate an expanded array of models after empowered alignments.

Enthusiastically build web-enabled processes with cross-platform innovation. Compellingly envisioneer business partnerships rather than team driven materials. Collaboratively e-enable extensive action items after emerging ideas.
  • Meta description Review and add any spaces or formatting where necessary. You may choose to edit in order to keep within 160 characters. By default, this field takes the copy from the Content field.
  • Visibility Visible

Contact Us

  • Title Contact Us
  • Content Copy and paste the following text, using the same styling as shown (except for the color). Replace any values in brackets with the actual values from the New Site Information form. Mailing Address [Mailing Address] [Mailing City], [Mailing State] [Mailing Postal Code] [Mailing Country Code (e.g. USA)][Customer Service Phone Number]
  • Meta Description Review the entries and add spaces between the address elements where needed.
  • Visibility Visible
  • Template page.contact

Privacy Policy

  • Title Privacy Policy
  • Content Copy and paste the Privacy Statement Boilerplate. Update the relevant information as needed, especially the contact information in Section 2 and at the end of the copy.
  • Note: You can easily copy the HTML Code from the Privacy Statement Boilerplate and paste it into the content by clicking the <> button on the editor toolbar to reveal the code view. This will place all the proper HTML tags and styling automatically. Then, by clicking <> again, you can return to the WYSIWYG editor view to make content changes.
  • Meta description We take your privacy seriously. Review our online privacy policy.
  • Visibility Visible.

 Site Use Terms & Conditions

  • Title Site Use Terms & Conditions
  • Content Copy and paste the Shopify Site Use Terms and Conditions Boilerplate. Update the relevant information as needed, especially the company name and contact information in Overview and Sections 13, 18 and 20.
  • Note: You can easily copy the HTML Code from the boilerplate and paste it into the content by clicking the <> button on the editor toolbar to reveal the code view. This will place all the proper HTML tags and styling automatically. Then, by clicking <> again, you can return to the WYSIWYG editor view to make content changes.
  • Meta Description The use of our website is subject to our Site Use Terms and Conditions.
  • Visibility Visible.

 Shipping & Returns

  • Title Shipping & Returns
  • Content Copy and paste the Shopify Shipping & Returns Boilerplate. Update all boldfaced items with the appropriate information. Note: You can easily copy the HTML Code from the boilerplate and paste it into the content by clicking the <> button on the editor toolbar to reveal the code view. This will place all the proper HTML tags and styling automatically. Then, by clicking <> again, you can return to the WYSIWYG editor view to make content changes.
  • Meta Description We maintain a comprehensive shipping and returns policy.
  • Visibility Visible.

Update Footer Menu

Now that you have the default pages built, they need to be added to the Helpful Links Menu.
  1. Go to Online Store > Navigation in the Shopify backend of the store.
  2. In the box titled "Helpful Links," click Edit Link list.
  3. In the Links section, add a link for each of the pages you created above, by clicking Add another link and entering the following for each page (these are to be added after the existing "Search" link):
    1. Link Name About Us; Links To… Page; select About Us.
    2. Link Name Contact Us; Links To… Page; select Contact Us.
    3. Link Name Shipping & Returns; Links To… Page; select Shipping & Returns.
    4. Link Name Privacy Policy: Links To… Page; select Privacy Policy.
    5. Link Name Site Use Terms; Links To… Page; select Site Use Terms & Conditions.
  4. Click Save.
When completed, the menu should appear as this: HelpfulLinksMenu

Add/Migrate Client Content

For this task, you need to review the client's current site and determine if there is static content that needs to be relocated to the new Shopify site. Look for such things as:
  • FAQs
  • Tips and Advice
  • How-to Content
  • Management Team
  • Investor Information
For each of these items:
  1. Create pages using best practices for page title. Edit the Meta description, if necessary, so that it summarizes the content on the page.
  2. Consider any additional functionality that may need to be added to facilitate items such as FAQs, etc. Consult with the Project Manager before deploying any additional apps (use the Task Comment field to communicate questions or suggestions).

When these items are completed, add them to the Footer Menu as appropriate. Some items may warrant placement in the Main Menu. Consult with the PM if you're unsure where to place links to these new items.

Add/Migrate Blog Posts

If a client site from which we're relocating their content has a blog, we need to move over the existing blog posts.

For an existing WordPress site, we can use the Shopify WordPress Importer. For others, it may take some effort to discover an export/import model. Lastly, blog post may have to be manually relocated.

Let the Project Manager know how you are going to approach this process and obtain permission for any tools or processes that may take more time and money.
